It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Ricky Joe Herron, 69, of Texarkana, Texas, on Thursday, June 27, 2024, following a courageous battle with cancer. Ricky was born on July 22, 1954, in Texarkana, Texas, to William “Bill” Herron and Phillis Gonser Herron. Ricky was a longtime resident of Texarkana, where he met and married Evelyn Kay Lindsey, also from Texarkana, on October 6, 1973, and together they had three beautiful daughters.
Ricky worked in the grocery business for years, and his daughters followed in their dad’s footsteps, working for him. They often reflect on the hard work ethics and lessons he taught them. In later years, Ricky and Evelyn started their own auctioneering business. After Kay’s passing, Ricky continued in the business, specializing in storage auctions and selling his treasures at a booth at The Lighthouse Flea Market in Texarkana with his business partner, Jenny Cross.
Ricky loved sports, like golf and football, and his favorite football team was the New Orleans Saints. He even had an entire room in his home filled with their memorabilia. Ricky also enjoyed many hobbies like hunting, golfing, and BBQing; in fact, he added BBQ sauce to everything he ate. Another one of Ricky’s favorite hobbies was playing pool at the Arrow Bar in Texarkana and jamming to the music on their jukebox.
Ricky had a deep love for his family and was an amazing father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He left a note telling them all that he would be watching them from above and would try to help them from there.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Kay Herron; his father, William Herron; mother, Phyllis Herron; daughter, Corvellia “Coco” Michelle Herron; and brother, Randy Herron. He is survived by his brother, Ronnie (Perla) Herron, and sister, Roxanne Cole. Ricky also leaves behind his two daughters, Bessie (Jeff) Lewis of Porter, TX, and Beanita (Jason) Balmain of Queen City, TX. He is also survived by three grandsons, Ricky Joe (Bri) Wheat, Nicholas (Raylyn) Lewis, and Nathan Lewis; five granddaughters, Belinda (Hunter) Clark, Ashley (Nic) Clark, Miracle Greathouse, Rebekka Stout, and Alexis Balmain; and six great-grandchildren. Ricky will also be missed by his business partner and special friend, Jenny Cross, along with other family and dear friends he knew throughout Texarkana, especially at The Lighthouse Flea Market and the Arrow Bar.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Hospice of Texarkana for their care and support in looking after Ricky. Tri-State Cremation and Funeral Services will handle the arrangements. At Ricky’s request, no funeral will be held. The family will have a private gathering to spread Ricky’s ashes and a celebration of life at a later date.
