Patricia Gail Sherrin

January 9, 1944 — February 8, 2025

Patricia Gail Sherrin, 81, of Texarkana, Texas, passed away on February 8, 2025. She was born on January 9, 1944, in Texarkana, Arkansas, to James Harris and Dorothy Bass.

Patricia was a selfless and hardworking woman, always putting others before herself. She made countless sacrifices to ensure her children had everything they needed, often doing without so they never had to. Strong, independent, and determined, she could do anything she set her mind to—even building her own covered porch almost single-handedly. She spent her life caring for those she loved and helping anyone in need. Known for her sharp wit, she had little patience for nonsense and was never afraid to speak her mind, but she would also give the shirt off her back to someone in need.

Patricia loved working outside and took great pride in maintaining an immaculate yard. Though she held various clerical jobs, she fulfilled her lifelong dream in 1997 when she became a nurse after graduating from Texarkana Community College as an LVN. The last years of her life were marked by chronic pain and declining vision, limiting her independence but never her spirit—though it did lead to some very colorful language.

She is survived by her children, Mona and Pat Simms, Candace and Tim Elam, Jeanna and Stephen Morris, and Julie and Bill Barentine; two sisters, Sue Watson and Trudie East; a brother, Michael Harris; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Sherrin, and her grandson, Matthew Elam.

The family would like to thank The Oaks Assisted Living for 2 ½ years of great times and friendships, The Villa Nursing Center and Lorraine Haynes and staff for their exceptional care, and Dierksen Hospice for their support.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Texarkana Humane Society at www.texarkanahumanesociety.org or Haven Homes at www.havenhomestexarkana.com.
