Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and wife, Joan Garofolo peacefully passed away on January 24, 2025, in Texarkana, Texas, at the age of 89.
Joan was born on May 24, 1935, to Stephen and Mary Hoffman in Brooklyn, NY. She was the loving wife of Philip Garofolo, who preceded her in death. Together, they raised six children: Kenneth Garofolo, Melanie Mulligan (Michael), Frank Garofolo (Sharon, deceased), Phyllis Norton (Nigel), Stephen Garofolo (Leigha), and Tina McKean (Eric).
Joan loved her nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She cherished every family gathering, making holidays and birthdays special for everyone.
She was known for her kind heart, unwavering love for her family, and infectious laughter. Joan had a passion for scrapbooking and spent countless hours crafting. She also enjoyed cooking family recipes passed down through generations, reading psychological thrillers, and watching true crime shows. She was an active member of the Red Hat Society.
Joan was a devoted friend, always ready to lend a listening ear and offer a helping hand. Her family and friends will miss her dearly, but they take comfort in knowing she is at peace.
In her later years, Joan battled Alzheimer’s disease with grace and resilience. Her legacy lives on through her children and grandchildren, who will always cherish the memories they shared with her. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love.
A private family service will be held in New York to honor Joan’s life and legacy.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in her memory.
