d. April 6, 2023

Bobby Wayne Young Bobby Wayne Young died on April 6th, 2023, with his sons by his side at his home in Atlanta, Texas. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Trinity Heights Baptist Church, 3820 Old Mooringsport Rd. in Shreveport, LA, at 2 pm on Monday, April 17th, 2023, with Dr. Scott J. Teutsch officiating. Brother Mike Ryan and Sister Jane Teer will provide music for the service. Bob was born on February 22, 1943, to T.L. “Ted” Young and Helen Lucille Phillips Young, parents that he adored. A 1961 graduate of C.E. Byrd High School, Bob went on to attend Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe. Bob served in the Vietnam War from 1965-1967 in the 1st Cavalry Division, where he received the Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, along with other several other honors. When he returned home he worked for Red Ball Motor freight, where he became dock foreman. Bob later moved to New Orleans and became General Manager of Eagle Trucking Company with offices in Harvey, Houma, Lafayette, Morgan City, and later Shreveport and Kilgore, Texas. He worked as liaison to his good friend and Texas State representative Jimmy Mankins. He then moved to Springhill, LA, where he started Bob Young Vacuum and Service Company. Bob owned and operated several Trucking Companies over the years, including Young Transportation and Internet Transportation specializing in oilfield rig moves and heavy equipment transport. After retiring from the trucking industry, Bob opened Carroway’s General Store and Restaurant in Ida, Louisiana. November 22nd, 2008, was proclaimed “Bobby Young Day” by the mayor of Ida, LA, in appreciation of his help revitalizing the town. He later moved to Atlanta, Texas, where he worked buying and selling equipment and rebuilding projects until his death. He always had a project or a “toy” he was working on. He restored a 100-year-old 60-foot paddle wheel houseboat and lived on it for several years on Caddo Lake. He also restored and repurposed several oilfield vehicles into heavy-duty motorhomes, along with other equipment he repurposed into cabins, industrial kitchens, and the like. Bobby was a Christian and served the Lord in several capacities throughout his life. He worked with the youth ministry at Central Baptist Church in Springhill, LA, where he would drive the church bus on youth mission trips from North Arkansas to Colorado, to South Texas, and everywhere in between. He was ordained as a deacon at First Baptist Bossier under Dr. Fred Lowery. He served on many international mission trips to Brazil and Mexico, through First Baptist Bossier and later with Pastor Jim Howard of West Side Baptist of Atlanta, Texas. On one particular trip to Mexico, the mission group encountered armed drug runners of the Mexican Cartel and fed them and witnessed to them. As always, Bob took the challenge head-on, fearlessly, and the Lord saw the group through to safety. Bob always loved holding church gatherings, fish fries, and crawfish boils throughout the years. He always had a large church family wherever he was living throughout his life. The family would like to thank Dr. Kevin Gallagher of the Willis-Knighton Hematology/Oncology Department for not only treating Bob, but for embracing him as a friend. The Family would also like to thank Bob’s neighbors, Giles Peacock and Tim Leach for their support, friendship, and love for Bob. Bob also wanted to thank Dr. Fred Lowery for his leadership and counsel over the years. A special thank you to Bob Hauser for always being there through thick and thin, good and bad, like another brother to Bob throughout his entire life. Bob is survived by his sons, Joshua Wayne Young of Shreveport, and Jeremy Lee Young and wife, Jennifer Johnson Young of Blanchard; sister, Bonnie Young Harper and husband, James D. Harper III of Waco, Texas; brother, Neil Young of Scottsville, Alabama; granddaughters, Kallee and Jolee; step-grandchildren, Hunter, Ava, and Eli; nephews, Wade Rasberry, Todd and Eric Young; and niece, Stephanie Young Stroud. Bob was preceded in death by his nephew, Gary Lee Rasberry, whom Bobby loved dearly. Nothing meant more to Bob than his family and friends. As he was getting close to the end, he would tell all his visitors that he wasn’t worried about death because he knew where he was going when he died, and he had lived a full life. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.” –John 11:25-26 The family suggest memorials be made to benefit Trinity Heights Baptist Church, 3820 Old Mooringsport Rd. Shreveport, LA 71107; or West Side Baptist Church, 712 W Main St, Atlanta, TX 75551.
